Experience the dynamic paint, vivid colour, and bold vision of contemporary British painter Frank Bowling. Celebrating a career lasting nearly seven decades, our exciting display brings together a lifetime of the artist’s work.

Frank Bowling: Seeking the Sublime offers a rare opportunity to see the breadth of Bowling’s career, from his earlier figurative works from the 1960s to the dramatic, abstract paintings that the artist is best known for today.

Discover the connections between art across time and explore Bowling’s works and his artistic influences, from Titian to Turner and his contemporary Aubrey Williams to Tracey Emin. Wander through our permanent galleries to see artworks by many of the artists who have shaped Bowling’s style and technique.
