Frank Bowling's spring update.

News

New UK solo exhibition opening next week. The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge will present Frank Bowling: Seeking the Sublime in 2026, bringing together key works from across Frank's six-decade career. From his bold early figurative pieces to the radiant abstracts that define his later practice, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to follow his artistic journey, and runs from 27 March to 17 January 2027.

Frank exhibits his most expansive painting to date. To celebrate his 92nd birthday, Frank exhibited his largest-ever work to date: a new, 13-metre-wide painting titled Into the Blue. The painting was displayed at Dilston Gallery, Southwark Park Galleries, for one day only as part of a special event attended by 600 people and marked by a speech from studio director Ben Bowling. The question now is: where will the painting go next?

Drawing Biennial 2026. Frank has been announced as a participant in the 12th edition of the Drawing Biennial in London, alongside leading international artists such as Lubna Chowdhary, Rose Wylie and Michael Craig-Martin. Running from 16 April to 23 June, it brings together artists working at the forefront of contemporary practice to reaffirm drawing as a vital and enduring discipline.

Financial Times paid a visit to Frank's "colourful, homespun flat" where he and his wife Rachel Scott are surrounded by art, reflecting on how home, family and Guyana continue to shape his work.

RA Magazine featured a quickfire "Ten Questions" interview with Frank ahead of his Fitzwilliam exhibition, which has also been highlighted as a must-see of the season in The Telegraph and British Vogue.

French newspaper Le Figaro celebrated Frank's "manifest mastery of painting" and his ability to make "light cascade" in an article reviewing Bourse de Commerce's Clair-obscur exhibition.

And in an interview in Writer's Mosaic, Frank reflected on the significance of his recent participation in the 36th Bienal de Sao Paulo, and the importance of "taking risks" in his painting practice today.
