The central focus of "Chromascopic" is, as the title suggests, to "look at colour". More specifically, the purview of this exhibition is to examine, explore and celebrate the non-figurative tradition of British colourists in the 21st century. Bringing together an eclectic group of contemporary artists spanning the generations and ranging from hard-edged geometric abstraction through to highly gestural painterly works, the ambition is always to observe and ponder the rich visual language and pure sensual experience of colour as a phenomenon.
By focusing on abstraction, we hope to unburden ourselves of innumerable real-world connotations and references and instead, allow colour to be the primary agent of consideration.
We hope this offers a valuable context in which to appreciate the shear diversity of approach in which artists utilise colour and to present a disparate yet related selection of works together for the first time.
