We would like to invite you to a special session for teachers and lecturers at universities, colleges or other HEIs, on Friday 18 October at 3pm.
The session will focus on the work of Frank Bowling and will take place at Castlefield Gallery in the context of our next exhibition 40 Years of the Future: Jo McGonigal x Frank Bowling which will have just launched the night before. The exhibition will be closed to the public that day for this private session which will begin with an introduction to the exhibition from CastlefIeld Gallery Curator Matthew Pendergast.
The session will then be led by Susi Sahmland who runs the educational outreach programme at Frank Bowling Studio. This event is an opportunity to hear from Susi Sahmland about Bowling's work including guidance on how to teach about his work and the many techniques, stories, histories and themes that are present in his work. Attendees will receive exclusive educational resources developed by the Frank Bowling Studio which could be used to aid teaching at university or college or inform future student visits to the exhibition which runs until Feb 2nd 2025.
Susi Sahmland looks after educational outreach for the Frank Bowling Studio. She works closely with schools, galleries and museums and has written (with a colleague from Goldsmiths, University of London) a unit of work on Bowling's paintings. Sahmland taught KS1 to KS5 in central London schools for 22 years before doing an MA in Leadership in Education at the Institute of Education in 2013 and is now a Senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths. Susi Sahmland regularly speaks at conferences, workshops and network meetings in the UK and Germany.
